With summer on the way, apparently, it’s time to start thinking about those reds that can take a bit of chilling! There’s a strong early contender here for red wine of the summer.. and it comes in the form of a humble bottle of Bardolino!
Forever living in the shadows of it’s estemeed neighbour, Valpolicella, Bardolino uses the same grape varieties, Corvina, Molinara & Rondinella, with a splash of Merlot & Sangiovese allowed if needed.
Bardolino has for some time been associated with plonk made for the lake Grada tourists, but over recent years, like many other regions the new wave of younger growers are re-imagining the way things are done. Farming better, producing better quality fruit & wines of real quality.
This wine from Casaretti is a stellar example of what can be achieved with some love, care and attention!
Light, ruby red,highly drinkable & fairly low in alcohol, this will be in our fridges for the majority of summer!
Perfect for pizza, pasta and anything else you may be eating in as the sunsets this summer!
Glistening on the palate like a bowl of juicy cherries, refreshing acidity, it could be compared to Beaujolais..
