Claire Thevenot had such a great time at the Rhone dinner that she’s already committed to come back & talk us through this mystical region where some of the most revered natural wines in the world hail from, our fridge is full of them & now again Lloyd lets one or 2 into the wild! Maybe he will on the night..

Where is Jura & Savoie & whats the big attraction?

Across the Bresse plain from the Cote D’or , nestled up against the French Alps you will find the mythical Jura region, head due south and you will climb in to the Alps and find the Savoie region.

The wines here are full of mystique, varieties that seem to be right at home in the these terriors , Poulsard, Trousseau, Pinot Noir, Savignin & Chardonnay would be the main protaganists.

These wines are a far cry stylistically from the other famous regions of France, but quality wise the can often rival their illustrious neighbour Burgundy & offer far better value. The growth & interest over the past 20 years or so since I joined the trade has been astronomical! I still think of them as humble, honest wines that on their day can be the greatest bottles I’ve ever tasted, some days less so enthralling, part of the natural wine charm I suppose!

On the night we will taste through 6 wines that will help paint a picture of this region and the styles of wines it produces, from sparkling wines, ‘jangly red’s’ , mineral whites and oxiditive sweet wines!

*We will serve up some traditional food to pair with the wines.

Alpine cheeses & cured meat platters with Angel bakery bread & for good measure ‘Croûte aux Champignons’!
