Introducing: Langham Estate

Many years back I had a great & long conversation with a gentleman in our old shop, we shared a love for low intervention, grower Champagne, after talking Agrapart & co for a while I parted with a very special bottle of Agrapart Experience, one of the rarest Cuvee’s from the Agrapart repertoire.. I knew it was going to a good home so didn’t feel too bad about it (Lies, I was gutted as soon as it left the door)

Turns out that young gentleman happened to be Tommy Grimshaw, now head winemaker at Langham estate. Ive watched the wines grow, over the past few vintages and we are delighted to now be stocking them!

Langham Estate’s Vision

As winegrowers, they pride themselves in crafting terroir-driven sparkling wines using grapes only grown on their Dorset vineyard. Thay take a low-intervention approach to both grape growing and wine production, constantly striving to minimise  the environmental impact and produce honest wines that reflect terroir, they dont fine or filter our wines, making them vegan & vegetarian friendly.

Vineyard

With a south-facing aspect, chalk soils and a unique microclimate, Crawthorne Vineyard provides the perfect terroir for ripening the classic Champagne varieties – Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. Established hedgerows and trees provide natural wind breaks and habitat for a large variety of beneficial organisms.  Growing their own grapes means they can pick at optimum ripeness, free from the shackles of contract purchasing and resulting in a better quality wine.

They are constantly working towards reducing chemical intervention in the vineyard, employing diligent canopy management executed at specific times. By increasing air flow through the canopy and promoting biological control organisms, the effects of disease are kept to a minimum. All grapes are handpicked, and rigorous vineyard selection ensures only the highest quality grapes arrive at the winery.

The Wines

Langham Estate Culver Classic Cuvee ripe stone fruit, floral, spice Pinot-dominant blend. Broad and full bodied with aromas of black cherry, pepper and apple blossom. £32 per bottle £180 case x6

Langham Rose fragrant, raspberry, buttery The blend focuses on the two pinot varieties, noir and meunier. Made in a mature, complex style – less floral, more structured. Aromas of raspberry and brown butter lead to a palate of mandarin, greek yoghurt and baked stone fruit. £35 per bottle £192 case x6   We love these wines and think they are some of the best British wines on the market, and priced nicely to boot!
