Great Wine & Jazzy Sundays!

Jan 22, 2026

I’m writing this email to you, the time is 11am Friday 9th January & I haven’t had a glass of wine since Saturday 3rd. We are under a new regime at home & I’m not going to lie it’s been a tough 1st week.. I almost cracked a bottle last night, but with some team strength & support via team Chester’s Whatsapp group, I restrained, team Chester’s have been 5 days dry!

Suicidal email for a wine merchant to write? Not really, we are always advocates for  better wine, we would much rather see you once a week for a bottle or 2 of great wine to enjoy over the weekend, than you waste money on sub- standard goods through the week. It’s like food, you wouldn’t eat processed rubbish all the time, so why drink it. That’s why you shop here, for bottles of gorgeous wine, that have been made with love and care for the land, with real sense of place.

We will keep preaching that, not just in January, but all year long. We want wine to become a passion of yours, as it is ours. We want you to come in excited about the next bottle, willing to learn and explore & how to differentiate why wine tastes like it does from different parts of the world, what makes it £20 instead of £8. When you embrace it, we promise you, your enjoyment of this worldly elixir that we love so much will improve ten fold, we see it all the time. You simply cant go on that journey with ‘wine by number’s’ from most supermarkets.

So with all that in mind, what am I drinking tonight?

We had a bottle open in store before Christmas & everyone who tasted it bought it..

This is Barbera from one of the master’s, the vines are at least 25 years old from a single 1.5h vineyard, the wine is aged in old oak barrels for 12 months, the old oak gives it some structure, but takes nothing away from the fruit and vintage.

The colour is incredible, vivid purple in the glass, the fruit is all dark berries, with a unmistakable rusticity that cant only be Italian, truffles & balsamic laden berry fruits galore. We will be having some Slow cooked Beef Ragu with it & I just can’t wait.

The anticipation is real..

It sits on the shelf at £33 a bottle, now, that doesn’t seem cheap, but trust me, it’s great value for a wine of this quality from this part of the world & a fitting bottle for that end of week treat that you all deserve!

Tomorrows wine to be decided.. but front runners are Terra Loci Pinot Noir, you may have seen it on our socials this week (we urge you to try this) & Gulfi Carjcanti, to help me think of warmer times and maybe inspire a holiday to Sicily later in the year!
